The news hit her like a ton of bricks. Juana’s husband was dead. At age 23, she was left with two young children to raise in one of the poorest areas of rural Mexico. Alone and frightened, she held on to her deep-rooted faith and courageously walked into her unknown future.
Since that day, Juana has worked tirelessly to break the chain of poverty which has viciously repeated itself in her family for generations. She and others need our help.
I was honored to visit Juana in her home this summer as she bravely recounted her story. She vividly remembers the questions that raced through her mind… Where will I live? How will I do this alone? How will I feed my children? Juana had valid concerns. She knew her 3rd grade education would limit her opportunities. Even so, she never stopped dreaming of a brighter future.
When Juana became a mother, she was determined to give her children the education she never realized, whatever that would require of her!
Raising two children with very limited resources is next to impossible in rural Mexico… but not for Juana. She irons clothes for a handful of clients and cleans a local restaurant in the evenings. It has provided the small income to keep her kids healthy and in school.
Her petite frame is tired, but her quest continues because of donors like you. She remains inspired by watching her son complete his final semesters of his bachelors degree, an opportunity provided by you. What could this hold for Juana and her family?
Possibilities. Certainty. Self-Sufficiency. Hope.
Just last month, Friends of Pimpollo received a $50,000 anonymous donation given in memory of Father George Wolf. We have been challenged by our donor to multiply this gift by five within the next twelve months and to raise a total of $250,000. Father George was a beaming example of loving and assisting those in need. Your gift today honors his memory and continues his legacy. You can multiply his impact through your giving!
Possibilities. Certainty. Self-Sufficiency. Hope for so many!
This is exactly why Friends of Pimpollo exists… to bring hope to communities through education! It is the key to permanently breaking the chain of poverty which so painfully plagues these communities.
I’ve watched this chain break for so many families over the years because of generous people like you. With each month of school completed, a student and their family begins to realize the new possibilities for their lives. A gift of just $30 keeps one student pursuing their education for another month.
Education truly changes everything! In honor of Father George, multiply your gift this holiday season to be part of this exciting challenge while giving Juana’s family and others like hers the life-changing dream of an education.
I can’t imagine a more meaningful gift this time of year!
